Tom Tessin asked:

If you’ve never looked a credit application before, it’s best that you know exactly what’s on that application and how you can apply properly. Whether it’s your first credit card or you’ve just simply forgotten the procedure, this article will guide you through the application process on what you can expect when you fill out your application online.

Before you apply for your first credit card as a student, you must meet the following guidelines, if you don’t meet these guidelines, you may have to apply for another credit card or if you’re under the age of 18, you will have to wait.

-	You must be at least 18 years of age. There is no exception to this rule. Credit cards are intended for adults. If you’re not an adult, you can’t apply, it’s the law.

-	You must be a valid US citizen with a valid social security number. Credit card companies will check your identity. If something seems fishy, they won’t distribute the card to you. Make sure that you have a valid social security number and that you’re a valid United States citizen.

-	You must be in college. The purpose of a student credit card is that it’s designed for college students. If you’re not a student, then you’re not going to get approved. As long as you’re going to college, you’re going to get accepted most likely unless your credit is bad.

If you meet the above requirements, you’re probably ready to start applying for your credit card. Most applications are very similar and ask the same exact question. Overall, there are not that many credit card companies. In fact, there are only four major companies. Below, you can find what to expect on your credit card application.

-	Your full name, date of birth, your current residency, and as mentioned above, you will need to supply your social security number.

-	Your telephone number along with a valid e-mail address and your current and previous address. If you don’t have a previous address, you can simply leave this blank.

-	The college you’re attending, what class you currently fall under (freshman, etc), and the location of the college as well.

-	Your job details, how much you make, where the job is located, the company name.

The only difference you’ll see with a student credit card is that they will ask for school information. If you find yourself applying for another type of credit card that isn’t college student related, you will find that they won’t ask for this information. When filling out your credit card application, make sure that you’re completely honest. If the company finds that you’re lying or trying to manipulate their system you may find them sending you a rejection letter and/or they might contact the local authorities, if you find yourself having to lie to get a credit card, simply don’t do it. When you finally receive your credit card, remember to be responsible and safe.

Travis

VLG asked:

Around 7 months ago I got into quite a financial mess. In the end I ended up missing my credit card minimum payments about 3 times or so. Since 4 or so months ago I caught myself up, paid what I owed from the missed payments all at once, and havn’t paid any payments late since then. Actually pay them earlier than the due date.

I also had a incorrect report on my credit profile. Best Buy’s credit card company had kept reporting me as not paying my balance for 60, 90, 120 days, when in fact I paid that credit card in FULL almost a year ago. Finally they reported me as a collection charge-off, and that’s when I called them and they got that removed, and changed it to account settled in full.

I’m thinking of applying for a small student credit card, from CIBC. Since I am a full-time student, and having a small credit card can come in handy sometimes. (I don’t have the credit cards I mentioned above anymore, I just pay them down, they’re not in use).

What are my chances of getting approved for the $500 Student Card? I don’t want to apply & then get declined again.

Thing is, I got laid-off from my summer job, and now i’m unemployed until I start school next month, when I start my part-time job at the hospital there. So right now I have nothing to put in the employment information section of my credit application.

Lillian

College Credit Builder asked:

Online credit card applications can be found at www.goodstudentcreditcard.com where students can compare the best student credit card offers currently available for students. Conscientious credit card use can lead to a lifetime of low-interest rate loan opportunities like auto loans, mortgages and other forms of consumer credit. Even though students tend to have limited credit histories and lower reportable incomes, good students enrolled in universities and colleges throughout the country are often given the opportunity to start building a credit record early. This is an opportunity that should be highly valued, particularly in light of the enduring credit crisis which has made it difficult for many people with good credit records to receive new credit cards, mortgages and auto loans.

Student credit cards issued by Discover and Capital One are specifically designed for student applicants. Some of the features offered by these credit card issuers include:

• No Annual Fee

• 0% Interest for a fixed period of time

• Cashback Bonuses

• $0 Fraud Liability Guarantee

During this climate of economic instability, illiquidity in the credit markets, uncertainty in the stock market, and the softening real estate market, one thing remains constant – good students should be given the opportunity to build a credit history. Responsibility, however, is required. It is important for students to remember that if they don’t have enough money to buy something now, you should consider saving up until you can. Credit cards are most beneficial when then balance is paid in full every month. They should be treated like cash in your wallet. In these difficult economic times, where credit is proving to be more difficult to come by, it is important to establish a strong credit profile by obtaining credit early and maintaining a consistent payment history. Student credit cards issued by Discover and Capital One are perfectly designed for student applicants.

Visit www.goodstudentcreditcard.com to apply online in a few short minutes.

http://www.articlesbase.com/college-and-university-articles/apply-online-student-credit-cards-660191.html

Ron

Your consumer credit bureau score mentioned above was determined using a scoring system that evaluated the information in your file at the consumer reporting agency named above. The following are the primary factors in your credit report that affected your credit bureau score:

Length of time accounts have been established.

Proportion of loan balances to loan amounts is too high.

Lack of recent revolving account information.

Too few accounts currently paid as agreed. ”
