Morgan Hamilton asked:

Getting a Master Card can be exciting. But before you even fill out the credit application, there are a few things you should know about the card you are applying for. The interest rate, grace period, fees and cash advance polices are all important terms that should determine whether you apply for the card or throw the application in the shredder. This purpose of this article is to discuss the various terms that you should understand before filling out a Master Card credit application.

Annual Percentage Rate (APR)

The APR, or annual percentage rate, is the rate the credit card companies use to calculate your finance charges for the month. The higher this rate is, the more interest you will have to pay on your charges. If you are one of the few who actually pay off their credit card balances every month, you do not need to be concerned with APR. If, on the other hand, you are like most of us and carry a balance from month to month, you want to find a Master Card with the lowest APR possible.

Grace Period

Next to the APR, the grace period is the most important term you need to understand before filling out your Master Card credit application. The grace period refers to when a company can begin charging interest on the charge you make. Most cards have a twenty-five day grace period. If you pay off your balance before twenty-five days, you don’t have to pay any interest. Avoid cards that do not have a grace period because they will charge you interest from the moment you purchase something with the card.

Cash Advances

Credit cards usually allow you to take out cash advances. This is money that you get from the ATM and is counted against your credit limit. Credit card companies normally charge a higher interest for cash advances on top of charging a transaction fee. While you shouldn’t take out cash advances anyway, it’s important to understand these terms before applying for a credit card

Additional Fees

Other fees, including late fees, over-the-limit fees and annual fees should be investigated before applying for a Master Card. Late fees and over-the-limit fees can be avoided by paying your bill on time and not charging more than you pay each month. Never get a card with an annual fee, it’s like paying for the privilege of using credit.

Francis

Joseph Kenny asked:

Have you ever been faced with the worry that your son or daughter is off to college and you want to give them access to emergency cash without having to give them the actual cash – which they’ll likely spend beforehand – but knowing by the time you wire the money to them the emergency may well be over? If so, you may well want to know what supplemental credit cardholders are!

In short, supplemental credit cardholders are persons who you authorize to use your credit card account. They are issued their own card, but the account is the same number as yours and any transactions they process on the card are charged to you. Collectively you all have the same credit card limit. As such, if your supplemental cardholder makes a purchase on the card, this reduces your access to that sum from your card limit – until such time as you have made a payment.

As you can see then, supplemental credit card users are offered all of the privileges of being credit cardholders, but based on your financial status rather than theirs. They are, therefore, a good means of providing security to your spouse and children without the worry of their having to apply for a credit card in their own name – which, in the case of your children, will almost certainly result in them having a lower spending limit anyhow.

Although a very useful and beneficial tool, a couple of issues you need to watch out for if you agree to supplemental credit cardholders on your account:

* you are liable for their spending! If they overspend, so do you! Also, you should request that provide you with any transaction receipts so that you can track any potential fraudulent use of the card.

* you may find that you are charged a fee for the privilege of having supplemental cardholders.

Finally, keep in mind that the policy of having supplemental cardholders is not limited to supplemental credit cardholders and it is possible to have supplemental cardholders for most major charge cards and store cards.

Vernon

Julian Hooks asked:

Prior to trying to raise your credit score you You should get a hold of the basics. You definitely need to understand exactly what it actually is, how it’s derived, and why it is so essential to you and your future.

Creditors and lenders understand the type of info they can get from your credit report you yourself should also know to better prepare yourself for future financial decisions that you may come across. Here are a few easy tips to follow to help you understand the basics of your credit score.

Understanding where your credit score comes from!

if you plan on raising your credit then it is obvious that you have to understand what your score consists of. Without that knowledge you knock in and be very good at improving your score because you don’t understand things you do to affect your score in the first place.

For starters your credit score is just a number that determines how much of a risk lending you money would be. Your score is usually between 300 and 850. The higher your score the less of the risk you are considered. Also the higher your rating the better chance you’ll be given a lower interest rate. Scores in the 600s sometimes have trouble getting approved for credit cards and loans. While those in the 700s and of course 800s received the best interest rates available.

Although these numbers seem pretty concrete keep in mind that there are always open for interpretation. Some lenders are willing to work with those with lower credit scores while others have a cut off. Also some lenders will only view your score while others view you are score and report.

Your credit score of course goes hand in hand with your credit report, which is basically your financial history. Your score is derived from the information in your report. Remember that there are three major credit bureaus and they all have different formulas and possibly different information regarding your credit history in their databases. That is why it is recommended to review all three of your credit reports and scores.

If you do not have a current copy of your credit report then you should be ashamed. You can receive free credit reports online with the click of a mouse so there is no excuse. There is no better way to learn about credit then to view your own report. It is full of vital information and explains the good bad and the ugly of your previous financial situations.

Constance
