Does the statute apply 7 years to a minor (14 yr old) that is issued a credit card by a credit card co?

If a credit card company issues a credit card to a 14 year old minor because they can lie on the application, can they harrass the parents about paying the debt? Will it carry over after they are 21 to pay or will the statute of limitations apply to this as well- 7 years and off their credit?”
It was a friends Daughter- she wanted to go shopping- gave her real SS# but her age she entered a false birth date to appear older. I dont know why the credit card company gave her a card, was a 300 dollar limit.

I don’t know about the parents, but I would think the credit card company could sue the kid (and possibly the parents) for fraud. Although, the credit card should have correct information in the first place that would have told the credit card company that the kid is only 14 years old and not to send the kid an application.

Sure they can LIE but where is the credit file the 14 year old is going to use to get the card? Unless the 14 year old is stealing someone’s identity then we have a more serious problem than the statute of limitations.
In short, not likely a 14 year old is going to get a card unless a felony is committed.

After 13 you are liable for your signature. So basically if you lie and sign it then you are liable for fraud and will end up in jail. Or juvenile hall since you are so young. They will harass your parents when you are in juvy.
Hopefully you or someone you know didn’t do this. If you/they did then get a job and pay it off right away. If the amount is too high then it’s time to talk to your parents. They might have a back up or savings or something to pay it off.
Another thing to look into is why there was not a full credit check by the company. Something they are responsible to do make sure kids can’t do that. So ask them why they didn’t ask for a social security number and current employee information. Sounds like it could be a credit card scam on their end. With this one I would have the parents get involved because they would know more about the court system.
Good luck

Minors can not be liable for a contract. I think the credit card company should be more worried about giving the card out to a minor. Even if they lied in the application they should have been able to tell the info did not match and reject the application.

The Credit Card company can harass who ever they like. But the parents or the minor can not be held responsible for the debt.
