If you filed for a credit card on line then the creditor has to notify you in writing why your application was rejected. This is most likely the reason why you get that message. It is a stall tactic.

Or, it is one of those many junk credit referral sites that take forever to find you a creditor that will accept your application.

If you have the reference number of the application then call up the helpline and quote the reference number and request for cancellation. This should work. Otherwise when you call up the helpline and give as much details to help them find the application and get it cancelled. Probably you will have to speak to the manager who will be available at that time.
